Growing Together: A Wonderful Community Meet-up for Durga Puja & Mithila Mahotsav 2026

On 2 August 2026, the Mithila Cultural Society Australia (MCSA) held a successful community meet-up, bringing together the Core Committee, new functional members, volunteers, and families to review the progress of Durga Puja & Mithila Mahotsav 2026. The meeting focused on sponsorships, cultural programmes, volunteer engagement, Mithila Haat, and community outreach, followed by a warm potluck lunch that strengthened friendships and reinforced our shared vision of "Mithila Away from Mithila." Together, we continue building a vibrant community while preserving our rich cultural heritage for future generations.

There is something truly special about seeing people come togetherโ€”not because they have to, but because they believe in a shared purpose. On 2 August, members of the Mithila Cultural Society Australia (MCSA) gathered for a community meet-up that beautifully reflected the spirit of "Mithila Away from Mithila." What began as a planning session soon became an afternoon filled with meaningful conversations, fresh ideas, warm friendships, and an even stronger commitment to our shared vision. Building a Community, One Step at a Time The gathering brought together our Core Committee, newly joined functional members, enthusiastic volunteers, and families who have come forward to contribute their time, skills, and energy towards making Durga Puja & Mithila Mahotsav 2026 a memorable celebration. The meeting was led by Navneet Jha. Shishirendu Jha (PO) shared updates on the progress made across various workstreams, including sponsorships, volunteer engagement, cultural programmes, Mithila Haat, publicity, registrations, logistics, and preparations for our three-day celebration in October. More importantly, the meeting demonstrated that our community continues to growโ€”not only in numbers but also in enthusiasm and ownership. Every Member Makes a Difference One of the highlights of the afternoon was welcoming several new members who expressed their willingness to actively contribute to different aspects of the festival. Whether someone brings professional expertise, creative talent, organisational skills, or simply a willingness to volunteer, every contribution strengthens our collective effort. A vibrant community is built when everyone feels they belong and has an opportunity to contribute. Beyond Planning โ€” Building Relationships After the discussions, everyone came together for a delightful potluck lunch. Families shared homemade dishes, stories, laughter, and memories, reminding us that our culture is preserved not only through festivals but also through the simple joy of coming together. These moments of connection are what make our community stronger and ensure that the next generation experiences the warmth, traditions, and values of Mithila even while living thousands of kilometres away from our homeland. Looking Ahead to October As preparations continue for Durga Puja & Mithila Mahotsav 2026 (17โ€“19 October), the enthusiasm shown during this meet-up has given us renewed confidence that this year's celebration will be our biggest and most impactful yet. With the support of volunteers, sponsors, performers, businesses, and families, we are working towards creating a festival that celebrates faith, culture, heritage, literature, music, dance, food, and the timeless traditions of Mithila. Join the Journey If you would like to volunteer, perform, sponsor, book a stall, or simply become part of this growing family, we warmly invite you to connect with us. Together, we are not merely organising an event. We are preserving a heritage, nurturing a community, and building a home for Mithila in Australia. Mithila Away from Mithila.
